New technique #5 involved my encaustic love. I have been toying with the idea of combining mono-printing with encaustics. And if you don't know, encaustic is my favorite medium involving hot wax, blow torches and other scary implements, dating back to Ancient Greece over 2000 years ago. It faded out of practice, had a slight resurgence during the Renaissance and just recently started gaining popularity. Here are a few of my usual things to do in encaustic:
So back to the new (to me) technique... Today I put a cookie sheet on the griddle, warmed a bit of beeswax on it and proceeded to paint on some colored wax medium. I then took a piece of printmaking paper and laid it over- or rather soaked it into the wax. When I lifted it up -here was the result. I'm thinking this might make a lovely kind of sun catcher if I can frame it in such a way with no backing... OK, so now I just want to play some more! *Grin* I just might have to include this activity in my upcoming art retreat!
