Through my daughter's ballet life, I have connected with another likeminded artist friend (who by the way, does beautiful point shoe creations!) Christa Thomas. Over several ballet parking lot conversations we discovered that we both wanted to make our art a bigger part of our lives. She encouraged me to take an online class from Jeanne Oliver, Building a Creatively Made Business, which was fantastic. As a result of this class, we have a pretty neat group of talented gals that share in a facebook page to encourage and help each other. Stacey, one of the group, instigated a really fun art swap blog hop-- and here it is! Today is the big day!
What is so funny is the way this worked out. Names were drawn, matches made and we anonymously sent off our pieces of art. I waited by my mailbox, but alas, nothing came and it was time for me to head to Colorado for my son, Jonah's National Debate Tournament. I figured I would be back on time to unstuff my mailbox and blog away. I had no idea my husband would drive out and hijack this trip to the East. I was so disappointed not to be hanging out with my new art friends... but then I got a lovely email!
You'll never guess who I was matched up with... in all of the gals across the state, one in my own California wine country backyard, my friend Christa! And better yet, she was able to email me her art that is waiting for me at home. And better still, it's beachy! I feel the ocean breeze as I look as this and am instantly cooled of this muggy east coast stuff!
Christa does incredible mixed media art with such an attention to detail like I've never seen in this genre. She pours her heart and soul into each piece. Look! The sand is real with bits of glitter. She has sheet music in the background that says, "grains of sand, words of love." And she has included pages from an 1875 geography text book! The piece is a 6X6 deep edge canvas... and I already know right where I want to hang it! Check out some of Christa's other works at http://www.mypenandpaintbrush.com. And check out her Etsy shop at htttp://www.etsy.com/shop/ThemeAndVariations After that, I invite you to hop around to the other blogs in this fun and arty adventure!
