Yes. True confessions. I'm a garden swooper. I love the results- just not the work. But this is true of so much in life. I always want instant results: a diet that works overnight, a get rich quick plan...I love the scene in Mary Poppins when she snaps her fingers and the room gets clean. Oh dare to dream!
At the moment I am a week before our annual VBS. It's a lot of work. Year after year kids come and go and seeds get planted. Was the ground ready? Will a frost come? Will it make a difference? God tells me to leave the results to Him... and I do... mostly. But sometimes I get jealous of the "garden swoopers," those who come in after the fact and know these kids as young adults and beyond, on fire for the Lord, serving Him- all the while I'm in the dark about the seeds I planted. Those feelings don't last long as God in His graciousness reminds me that they are His as am I. He whispers to me that His Word does not return void. He asks me to trust and let go. He reminds me that it is a joy and privilege to serve. And then He does something that's pretty amazing: He surrounds me with friends- brothers and sisters in Christ, on fire for Him and serving Him in incredible ways, and do you know what He calls me? I can hear Him laughingly refer to me as a garden swooper! Right now, I am enjoying the fruit of someone else's long ago, wondered about, planted seeds. It's all part of His plan. Trust. Plant. Reap. Rejoice.
